For its reopening, the Museum of Bordeaux is pleased to host an exhibition designed by Belgian association APEX.

Very Tactile plunges the spectator into the universe of touch, one of our five senses. Through a series of tactile experiments to spark curiosity and wonder, the public will understand how touch works and how it affects our perception of the world around us.

Nine modules feature 50 unique and interactive exhibitions. Over 300 sq.m, the Very Tactile exhibition will immerse the visitor and their whole body in the world of this exteroceptive sense that is shared by humans and animals.

What is the purpose of touch? How does this sense function? Are the sensations the same for everyone? Can touch become impaired? How is touch linked in our body? Just some of the questions to which the Very Tactile exhibition will provide answers.

In this exhibition, the visitor will explore their sense of touch by stimulating the exhibits in various ways: first by touching, which we call ‘active touch’, then by the act of inviting touch, or ‘passive touch’, and then by being touched by sensations representing the ‘emotional aspect’.

The visitor moves through the modules and is introduced to different unexpected sensations such as a caressing tunnel, a homunculus palace (physiology), an igloo (temperature), a tin shack (pain) and a foot maze, promising a full immersion of your body in the universe of touch. The Very Tactile exhibition shines a light on various ideas and notions associated with this typically unsung but crucial sense for our development.

The Very Tactile exhibition features a fun and interactive trail called Touch Everything specially designed for children aged 3-6. In eight tiny spaces, children are totally immersed and, without relying on their sight, are invited to explore, touch objects and animals skins (some pleasant, others less so!) and sit down on chairs covered in different textures.

A dynamic exhibition accessible to visitors of all ages!
